A Paean to My Pregnant Wife

I hope the love I have for you,
Is reaching out and touching you,
Making your days a little brighter
And your heart a little warmer,
Like a kiss of life for a drowned brother
By an elder in the icy cold weather.

Today if a smile comes to you,
A happy smile that perhaps you
Can’t possibly explain…
It’s because in that vein,
I am thinking of what is within you,
And smiling of two souls too.

I know you are there on a southern plain,
Bearing my gene in thy womb with pain,
Weariness, fever and fret in dismay,
Through rainy and sunny day,
But, do not be afraid of anesthesia,
For it is pain’s panacea.

I couldn’t find a compatible partner
If I searched the world over,
But you came to me as an elixir of my life,
And how lucky I feel to have
A perfect wife in my life,
Who will soon give me my successor.

Thy softest smile opens to my sickening heart,
Like a daisy opens its petals to the morning sun,
Thou art the clear light of my life,
When your birth asserts,
My happiness will be my son,
With triumph, I’ll bellow, “My duck of boy!”
